Connecting Young People to Jesus!

At South Brookley UMC, we want to give middle school and high school students a “safe” place to find out about the “dangerous”, life-changing message of Jesus! “Safe” in that our youth ministry is a place where young people can drop their guard, be themselves, and ask honest questions about faith. And “dangerous” in that when we let Jesus into our lives, He tends to mess up our safe, predictable lives and lead us on amazing adventures of faith! Whatever your background, racial identity, family or school is, all youth are welcome at South Brookley!
Fellowship & Learning at Wednesday Night Youth Gathering – All youth in grades 6-12 are invited to join us on Wednesday nights for snack supper at 5pm and a time of listening, learning, discussion and fun from 5:30-6:30pm. Youth are given the chance to listen and learn from the Bible and each other, and discuss how to apply the message to their everyday lives.
Worship & the Arts – Our youth participate in our Sunday morning worship times, often serving behind the scenes as acolytes, children’s helpers and running sound & visuals. In our Soul Café service, youth take an active role in helping lead our multicultural praise team, serving as singers, rappers and DJ’s. Once or twice a year, we sponsor a neighborhood Hip-Hop Academy, with 4-week classes in graffiti/street art, hip-hop dance, rapping and DJ-ing.
Service to the World – Our young people serve right alongside the adults when it comes to serving our neighborhood and city. Our students have participated in the annual Martin Luther King Day of Service and other service projects – picking up trash on the Parkway, doing yard work for seniors and serving at a family shelter.
Serious Fun! – Our youth are always down for a good time, whether it be a pizza party, pool party, concert or movie night, bowling night, or a lock-in. Jesus often compared the kingdom of God to a party and we live that out by making our youth gatherings a party that EVERYONE is invited to!
